About

For the past two years I have lived on an organic vegetable farm in the foothills of the Shenandoah mountains. It was my plan to immerse myself in the world of small-scale agriculture and really learn what it’s like to grow food. Not just for myself, but for whole communities. Because I believe that’s the point of good food – to share it with others.

Existing as I do as a white woman in this country and world, the privilege of choosing this lifestyle is not lost on me. Agriculture is a profession that white people have forced onto people of color, and more specifically enslaved Africans, in years past. It is a history that I mourn and one I hope to learn from as to fight against future injustices. To that end I am striving to read and learn and listen and act – every day. I urge you all to do the same; I am planning to share books I am reading, people I am learning from, and ideas that have made a difference to me.

This blog is just a little slice of my perspective, my musings, my life. I will continue to cook and share food with others because it brings me so much joy!

Thank you for reading and sharing with me!

  1. The Born family will be your loyal followers. Can you do a blog on taste and or spices in the Senegal tradition. I would also like to hear about starch or is rice the focus. Of course anything about farm to table. Much joy to you.
